SULLIVAN, OLENA

I am a Toronto-based graphic designer and photographer and have a great love for the urban landscape. I spend the majority of my excursions finding beauty in the decay and destruction of buildings once familiar, now reclaimed by the elements and time. When people abandon a site, they leave bits of themselves behind - books, office materials, posters, couches, even a teddy bear - and all these items are clues to the past, giving you an idea of what the building was like in its heyday. I try to bring this sense of the past out in my photography, to provide a connection with the location I am shooting and at the same time tell a story.

On every excursion, I shoot only what I see, trying to interact as little as possible with my environment. My aim is to document the location within its decay timeline, leaving only footprints in the debris.
